The solar pv system adds to our portfolio of onsite renewables which include a 56kw biomass boiler for central heating, solar thermal panels for hot water and rainwater harvesting for our vehicle wash down point. The new panels will reduce our carbon footprint to 6 tons pa from 12 tons. This year’s 12 ton footprint has been offset with Trees4Scotland.
The investment has been funded through an Energy Saving Trust small business loan and will attract quarterly payments from the government guaranteed Feed In Tariff resulting in a self-financing model. Not only will we benefit from free electricity but we will generate an income which pays for the investment. Future plans to reduce our carbon footprint still will include the use of biodiesel and in time the greening of our fleet with electric or hybrid vehicles.
